Company History

Our experience is vast in management, training, and care of horses and our previous, as well as current clients are able to state how their time with us has helped them. Our experience in successful training exceeds 30 years of tested and tried methods.
We use both English and Western styles of traditional and natural horsemanship to fit your needs. We are centrally located and easy to find, so please come see for yourself.

Sandi was born and bred in the USA in Washington State and after having met and courted with Mike In Hawaii USA, where they met, Sandi decided to move to England and  they  finally got married in 1998. Sandi initially worked with minature horses in this country, and then started to work from a DIY yard by Hickstead in Sussex, with Quarter horses and many other breeds of horses, until they finally found and purchased Ailby House Farm in October 1999. Ailby House gave them an opportunity to turn a derelict old dairy farm into an equestrian facility that best served their needs as well as their clients. It was this dream and challenge for them, of developing the property to their own specifications and standards, that is an ongoing process. It is the aim to continually improve the facilites that are offered.

As a team, they work to share their joint passions of horses with all walks of life and standards of ability.  The Farm has enabled them to give people of all riding standards, an opportunity to embrace this sport and past time, in whatever capacity they can, and to give all breeds of horses and ponies a chance to progress in their lives and enjoy their human companions.

They work with English in-hand and ridden, and western pleasure riding and halter training for in-hand work, be it for showing or for a pleasure past time. They specilaise in working with youngstock and it  is this aspect that is now excelled along with preparation of backing horses. They are the leading trainers of youngstock in the UK, and travel the country to help clients with their young horses or have them at their facilty to work with for longer periods.
The results are second to none.

European Horse Breeders was established as an extension of the business, as it was felt that it was necessary to always be able to offer alterantives for all clients. This business is also a driving passion to them to help improve the horse industry as a whole. EHB was initially started due to a desire to bring new bloodlines into this country. Unfortunately the first experience with frozen semen proved disasterous and very costly due to very poor quality semen supplied. They were then offered this opprtunity with help from Amy Gumz in the States to establish a company with integrity, guranteed semen quality, and a service that could provide a personal yet professional and cost effective system, to help mare owners in the UK and all of Europe.

It is to this aim that Austin's Equine and European Horse Breeders will always be looking forward with positivity and passion to help clients with their horses and their breeding requirements.

Mission Statement

Mike and Sandi Austin are British and American educators of both Equine and Human. We incorporate both styles of training and riding to achieve natural movement and confidence in both horses and people. We embrace the spirit of the horse.
We believe that it is important to utilise the natural abilities of both horses and handler to achieve the desired goal. Many horses and people are rushed and forced to achieve what is necessary for a safe ride, whether just hacking out or in the show ring or even just halter training. We do not believe this to be necessary.

The time you and your horse spend together, should be fun and easy for you both, and we take great care to achieve this. Using a different (and often easier) natural style of communication, this becomes a very attainable goal. Working together, we will show you and your horse how to relax, which makes learning much easier and a lot more fun.
Our methods incorporate traditional and natural horsemanship, and years of tried and tested experience. Through horses you learn that you can never know everything, and that life is a continual upward learning curve. We continue to stay aware of alternative methods and incorporate some of these elements into our lives, that we feel will benefit ourselves, our clients and all our animals big and small.

We endeavour to give our ‘training secrets’ away which allows you to have the knowledge to reach the sky, when it comes time to take your horse home or to maintain them from our facility. You will learn how to continue on your own, at our facility or in your own environment and with the facilities that you have available to you. Through European Horse Breeders you also have the opportunity and choice to breed your mare's to suit your requirements and therefore produce a foal that can give you a future with limitless opportunities.

You do not need a perfect school to work your horse at home. We strive for horse and human to be able to go home with a better understanding of each other, so learning does not continue to be a huge struggle...even when a difficult lesson comes up
